Rail Road Wave

Click on the pics to enlarge - again to shrink.

Description:

Any flow less than 3000 cfs is ripping here. The low head dam is broken out in the middle so at low flows nearly the entire amount is through the broken out section. At flows above 2000 cfs one needs to be careful of recirculating hydraulics along the rest of the dam. Please scout before you boat!

A view from the RR bridge. The wave is twice as wide as the picture.

Side view of some surfing action.
There's a nice "pour over" to practice your squirts.

Accomodations:

There are a couple hotels within 3 blocks and several fine dining establishments close by.

Directions:

Highways 63, 218 and 380 all lead to the center of town. Find the intersection of 6th St. and the Cedar River. 6th is one way so immediately after you cross the bridge, take a right and park by the RR tracks.
